Facebook’s Biggest Move before the US Presidential Election


A day back, i.e., On Thursday, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced few extravagant ways to protect the probity of the US Presidential election. Mark Zuckerberg claims these moves will encourage voting, give official information to people, and most of all these moves certainly lessen the risks of post-election chaos. 

Facebook made the declaration that it will ban new political ads just before the US presidential election. The action is parochial, blocking only new political ads tendered in the week just before the election but still permitting those who presented before 27 October. Along with the new stipulations, Facebook stated that it will connect any post from a contestant trying to announce the triumph before the final results are going to count from the National Election Pool and Reuters. 

Till now, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been fixed about permitting political ads on Instagram and Facebook, even though if contestants utilize those ads to rake up or spread wrong information. Numerous other big social media platforms like Pinterest and Twitter have already blocked political ads across their platforms.

Facebook also Pull Down the Posts that Exploit COVID-19

Along with the new restrictions, Facebook also stated that it would pull down the posts from the network that tries to deter individuals from voting by insisting that if anyone can go out to vote they’ll surely catch COVID-19. For those discouraging posts, Facebook will connect a link that provides the official or legal information about the COVID-19 pandemic. 

In the official press release, Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg said that the company will ban those ads which exploit the pandemic just to hinder voting. All these actions are using just to protect the US presidential elections from any mishappening and just to stop spreading the so-called fake news. 

The 36-year old Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Dr. Priscilla Chan, have donated $300 million to those organizations that are not supporting any parties or just be natural to empowering the voting infrastructure. Moreover, the declarations just come after a few days Facebook declared that the Russian-based Internet Research Agency was racking up Black Lives Matter and left-inclining voters online. As of now, Facebook has excluded the accounts and the FBI is investigating the entire scenario. However, the Internet Research Agency was incriminated, with 13 Russian citizens and the 2 distinct Russian objects, by a grand jury for manipulating the 2016’s US presidential election. 

In the end, this move by Facebook is the part of its attempt to press down the wrong information which is circulating over its network. Facebook has had 2.7 billion active users on a regular monthly basis, moreover, Facebook is constantly working to stop spreading fake news.
